Online Host and Reservationist- Karen Majavie

Courtney Paulse

Karen matriculated from Portland Senior Secondary in Mitchells Plain in 1985. She then took a gap year and went to Germany. Upon her return she started working in the hotel industry at a hotel in Sea Point. After many years working in hotels, she moved over to a tour operator and spent ten years working for them. She missed the hotel industry too much and jumped at the opportunity to join Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus. She decided to move back to Cape Town in 2015 and joined The Bay Hotel in November.

She lives in Mitchells Plain with her son and enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, quiz nights and baking cupcakes.

Front Office Manager - Elana Dampies

Elana Dampies

Elana grew up in Ravensmead and attended Ravensmead High. After matric she worked at Mount Nelson as a Room Service waiter for a year. In 2002 she moved to Hotel Le Vendome and worked in the Front Office department as Switchboard operator, this is where Elana realised that she has a passion for Front Office and was moved to the reception desk within a few months. In 2007 Elana joined the Newmark Hotels group as Front Office Shift leader and worked for the group for over 9 years and was given the opportunity move around within the group.
Elana joined the Village n Life Group in January 2015 at The Bay Hotel as Front Office Manager.

Elana is very passionate about her job and loves working with people, she believes that being a Hotelier is not a job but a life style.

Tides Manager - Jean-Pierre Thorne

Jean-Pierre Thorne

Jp was born in Port Elizabeth and moved to the beautiful whale watching town of Hermanus during his early teen years. He started in the food and beverage industry as a waiter at Dros, then moved onto fine dining and worked his way up as a manager at Cubana Hermanus. He then moved to Cape Town in 2009 in search of growth in the industry and worked as the restaurant manager at News Cafe. He joined the hospitality side of food and beverage when he worked for the Protea Group and joined Village and Life as a restaurateur. He is extremely passionate about his work and exceeding guest's expectations.

In his free time, JP enjoys watching rugby, all genres of music and a good braai with family and friends.

Tapas Manager - Jaydean van Houwelingen

Justin Adonis

Jaydean van Houwelingen was born in the wine lands of the Paarl region and graduated from Bloemhof Girls High, in Stellenbosch. She always knew she had an irreplaceable passion for the hospitality industry. In 2013, Jaydean decided to pursue that dream by moving to Cape Town where she, independently started university whilst working in one of the most popular tourist attraction markets in Cape Town called Greenmarket square. After her studies she did a 6 month internship at Camps Bay Retreat in December 2013, she went back to the Square where she then became a young manager.

With her energetic thirst to constantly grow more within the industry. Jaydean joined the Village n Life team at The Bay Hotel in 2015.

Executive Housekeeper - Chantel Crowie
Chantelle Crowie

Chantel Crowie was born in Mowbray and later attended Plumstead High School. She started in the hotel trade after school, at a company that makes uniforms for hotels. She then moved on and worked at The Cullinan Hotel, when they opened. She has been with The Bay Hotel for 8 years now and takes great pride in her position as Executive Housekeeper. Chantel's greatest joy is in meeting new people and perhaps this is why she is dedicated to the hospitality industry.

Host Manager - Sean Geyser
Sean

Sean grew up in Camps Bay and matriculated at Camps Bay High School in 2004. After matric, he went on to study Hospitality Management at International Hotel School. Sean started his career as a Receptionist at the Ambassador Hotel and was shortly promoted to Front Office Duty Manager. In 2008 he started at the Newmark Hotel Group assisting wherever he was needed at the various properties. Sean then spent two years on the cruise ships with P&O Australia, sailing the South Pacific Ocean. He started with Village & Life in 2012 as Resident Manager at the Camps Bay Retreat and is currently Host Manager at The Bay Hotel.
 
Sean is a certified Coxswain at the NSRI station 2 in Bakoven so he spends his spare time volunteering to save lives at sea.

Group Events Manager - Darryl Gouws
Darryl Gouws

After he completed his studies in Photography, Darryl moved to London to gain international experience. He ended up staying for 5 years and acquired his Advanced Certificate in Wine & Spirits from the WSET whilst working for a wine bar group. A keen cook and avid traveller, he appreciates new adventures and experiencing different cultures. Darryl started with Village & Life in January 2014 and again at The Bay Hotel in October 2014.

COO - Johann du Plessis
Johann du Plessis

Johann grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his in-house hospitality training through Protea Hotels and went on to complete his Certificate Programme in Management Development through Wits. He worked at Sun City before moving to Legend Lodges Hotels & Resorts as Director of Operations. Seeking a new challenge, Johann moved to Cape Town and worked at the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel & Spa, before joining the Village n Life family in 2014.

Johann is an avid enduro off-road motorbiking enthusiast, enjoys road cycling and is a major rugby fanatic.
